10 Undeniable Reasons to Get a Wii

10 Undeniable Reasons to Get a Wii

    01. It’s a Workout

Want to know what my WII age is? 36. I am not ashamed to say this, although I won’t tell you my real age. WII fitness is no joke. For those days when the thought of hitting the gym for a workout turns your stomach, may I suggest WII Sports, your favourite music, running shoes and a few rounds of Boxing or Tennis. It will get your heart rate up.

    02. K.I.S.S.

Nintendo has Kept It Seriously Simple! There’s a reason WII consoles are popping up in retirement homes and rehabilitation centres. It’s a remarkably intuitive system. In fact - it took my mother-in-law the whole of 10 minutes to be literally up and rolling.

    03. It’s Fun, Really Fun

Traditionally, when a new console was released, it would out-do its predecessor and the competition with (a.) Beefed-up graphics (b.) A better processor (c.) Improved add-ons (DVD capabilities, storage, and internet connection). Somewhere along the line, developers must have realized that there is a limit to what they can do graphically, while still making a console affordable. The WII does not have this as a limitation. Its unique interface, which brings the user into the game, has endless possibilities in terms of creativity.

    04. Stress Relief

Your boss all up in your face? It’s time for some big hits in Madden 08. Bored? Super Mario Galaxy is the best Mario ever created. Feel like hitting something or someone? Resident Evil 4 brings has plenty of zombies to battle.

    05. Realism

The current offerings from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo represent the seventh generation of game consoles. Graphics-wise, it’s been there done that when it comes to each outdoing the other with improved graphics. Instead, let’s look at true realism in games. As an example, let’s look at the difference between Boxing on the WII, Xbox and PS3. Only the WII gets you up and on your feet. Don’t care for Boxing? How about Golf or Tennis? What the WII lacks graphically, it makes up by bringing you into the action - no matter the field of play.

    06. It’s Not You, It’s Mii

Using your Wii, you create Mii - a virtual version of yourself, or in my case, your alter ego: aviator shades, goatee. Online, you can see some very interesting creations and even submit your Mii’s in contests.

    07. Price

$500 for a loaded PS3, $350 for an Xbox - even with Sony and Microsoft dropping the prices of their consoles, it’s hard to justify dropping huge dollars on a console system. With the WII you’re up and running for under $250, with cash to spare for the essentials - like groceries and rent.

    08. Who’s Laughing Now?

Back when Nintendo unveiled the WII, industry types scoffed at the interface. Now, it’s a must have item for Teens, Gen X'ers, baby boomers, and seniors.

    09. Competition

What are we gaming for in the first place? A participant trophy? A pat on the back? Smiley faces? No, we’re playing to win. Beating your friend on the WII adds that extra level of gloating; you’ve got both the physical and mental triumph.

    10. It’s the Future of Gaming

Every once in a while a new technology comes out and takes in industry by storm, and things are never the same. Think back to the introduction of the personal computer, cellular phone and the IPOD. Now look at the Nintendo WII. It’s undeniable that the industry is standing up and taking notice.
